25 Non-English Language Horror Films You Need to Watch
If you haven't yet decided what to watch this Hallowe'en, here's a late list of suggestions for films that will not only scare you, but will make you read a little. Without much preamble, let's get the rules straightened out: the primary language cannot be English (if it is a silent film, then the original language of the intertitles cannot be English). I have taken some liberties with the definition of horror here, as some of these films may classify as drama (or some other genre) on the surface. But one thing they have in common is that they will scare you on some level.
Fair warning: some of the following images contain fake blood.
Enjoy!

Saw 3D: The (Bullshit) Chapter (2010)
Once upon a time, Saw (2004) was a movie. A movie on the forefront of a new wave in horror. A movie that knew how to build to terrible, fantastic scenarios with rewarding moral implications and a knock-you-down twist. A movie that challenged your heart and your mind, in addition to your stomach. Now… it’s a torture-porn piece of shit with the tact of a masochistic teenage boy and the skill of a dog chained to a typewriter.
There have been seven of these films. Seven. Seven films in seven years, and over that time the once pseudo-creative story has devolved into a series of grotesque puzzle sequences, the story itself eroding as it’s cycled and transferred from tape to tape to tape. In this SEVENTH and hopefully final installment, the folks over at Twisted Pictures tried to spruce things up with a 3D shine. But here’s the thing about 3D – it looks like crap. Even James Cameron can’t make this gimmick look like much more than a really vivid video game. So the dirt and scum and grime that establish the world of Saw now take on the visual quality of a Kurt Cobain coloring book.

Throwback Review for Halloween Leftovers - Paranormal Activity (2009)
It's November 1st and you woke up to a Halloween Hangover. Your stomach's filled with melting milk chocolate, your brain recovering from a sugar crash. Or maybe you're just hung over for real, with evidence from last night's party pounding in your head, and littering your floor (is that a "beaver" custome? What were you thinking?).
They say the best remedy for a hangover is to get right back to the party. So grab some of those trick or treat leftovers, hit the couch and que up one of those scary movies you didn't have time for. You could pick one from The Bru's excellent list, or you could start with the movie below. Because The Simpson's Halloween Special isn't on till next week, and scary never goes out of style.

Halloween Special: The Top 20 Horror Films ... According to The Bru
It's Halloween (though personally I'd rather listen to Helloween). Pumpkins are to be carved, silly costumes are to be worn, and horror films are to be watched this weekend.
To get into the spirit of all things Samhain (and because EVERYONE loves lists), here is the list of the Top 20 Horror Films According to The Bru.
First things first: what constitutes a horror film? For some it is the killer slashing his way through horny teens, for other it's a young girl crawling down the stairs ... upside down. Some would even consider Mariah Carey's acting to be horror. For fear of putting too many restrictions, I have decided to go with the approach of "if it's scary or terrorising in any way, it shall be up for consideration".
Perusing through MacWallace (the new rendition of my long-running film database), it took me about 5 minutes to come up with these titles. That pretty much guarantees that I will regret one or two choices down the line. All in all I am pretty confident that it reflects what I consider to be a good horror film. Some will call me a softie, a mainstream-lover, or too obscure. If for nothing else, this list will achieve its main purpose: to start meaningful conversations about life in general. Oh, and it may give you a couple of ideas for what to see on Halloween ... or in days to come.
Without further ado, here is The Top 20 Horror Films ... According to The Bru (in alphabetical order). Be scarin'!
